Dog-friendly days out in North Norfolk

The canine coastline: The best dog walks and days out near Mundesley

Mundesley, with its quaint charm and peaceful setting, is a slice of heaven for those seeking a quiet retreat. And if you're a dog owner, you're in for a treat. The North Norfolk coast, teeming with vast beaches, serene woodlands and picturesque trails, makes for an ideal setting for memorable dog walks and days out. It also serves as a great base for exploring the broader North Norfolk region.

Mundesley beach

Right on The Ship Inns doorstep lies the sandy expanse of Mundesley Beach. The golden sands stretch far and wide, offering an endless playground for you and your furry friend. Whether they’re fans of chasing the waves or simply trotting alongside you, this beach is a paradise for dogs and their owners. Be sure to check local guidelines though, as seasonal restrictions apply at certain times of the year.

Bacton Woods

A short drive from Mundesley, Bacton Woods offers an enchanting woodland experience. With more than 30 species of tree and a network of paths to choose from, your pooch can meander through the woods, perhaps chasing after a squirrel or two. There are open spaces within the woods where they can run freely, as well as brooks for them to splash in.

Honing Lock circular walk

This circular route is a treat for both the eyes and the feet. Circling the old railway and waterways, it offers varying landscapes from meadows to woodlands. The walk is fairly easy, making it suitable for dogs of all ages. The waterside sections are particularly pleasing during summer months when dogs might appreciate a quick dip.

Sheringham Park

While slightly further afield, Sheringham Park is well worth the drive. Known for its vibrant rhododendron blooms, the park's vast landscapes ensure dogs have plenty of space to explore. There are several trails, some taking you up to vantage points offering panoramic views of the coast. Remember to keep dogs on a lead in designated areas, especially during bird nesting seasons.

Cromer beach

Just up the coast from Mundesley, Cromer is famous for its historic pier and delicious crab. The beach, which stretches in a crescent shape, offers another excellent seaside walk. Dogs can roam freely on certain sections, so it's best to check for signs or local guidelines.

Weavers’ Way

Stretching between Cromer and Great Yarmouth, this long-distance footpath offers multiple shorter segments that are perfect for dog walks. The trail meanders through the Norfolk countryside, crossing woodlands, fields and even some sections of the coastline. Choose a section that appeals most and let your pooch enjoy the diverse terrains.
